The Mabie Legacy

Doug Mabie, founder and namesake of The Mabie Group, passed away suddenly on September 12, 2024. He was the best of us, a true class act, and a great advisor who cared deeply for the well-being of all our clients.

A letter from the Mabie Family:

On September 12, 2024, our lives changed in the blink of an eye. We lost our beloved Doug. He was an amazing husband, father, son, brother, friend and colleague.

Doug represented everything good in a person. He was warm. He was thoughtful. He was generous. He was responsible. He was caring. Whatever Doug did, he did it with compassion and intention. These characteristics were true with his family, friends, business and philanthropy. Doug always put others first and would often ask himself, “what more can I do?”

While he was taken way too soon, Doug accomplished a great deal. He supported and raised a family, he was an important Managing Director at Baird, he started a Foundation that supports underprivileged youth in the Chicago community, he served on countless boards and he was mentor to many young professionals. Everything Doug did centered around how he could help improve the wellbeing of others.

Doug spent most of his professional life working in Private Wealth Management. When he moved to Robert W. Baird more than 13 years ago, his goal was to work with, and for, a company that shared his values and work ethic. Doug assembled an amazing team at Baird, known by all as The Mabie Group. Doug, Ford Martin, Kate Barr and Jenn Krohn worked together for years and were a well-oiled machine. The left hand always knew what the right hand was doing. Doug chose his group carefully and always had the big picture in mind. He knew that when his day came to retire, he would leave his business in very capable hands.

Under Doug’s leadership and with their innate feeling for business, the team put the clients first but were always asking themselves, “how can we do better?” This was Doug’s philosophy and they continue to operate the same way - with thoughtfulness and integrity. Since Doug’s passing, the team has done an incredible job managing the business. Their professionalism has been magnificent and they have been invaluable to the continued success at Baird.  We are also extremely grateful that Tim Pennise and Eric Dahl have been supportive and thoughtful working with The Mabie Group during a very difficult time. Our family is eternally grateful.

Doug would be very proud.  We were all dealt an unimaginable blow on September 12th but we have done our best to move forward the way that Doug would have expected. Work hard, be kind to one another, give back and be the best person you can be to yourself and to others. This includes making tough decisions.

While the team will now be known as The Dahl Martin Pennise Group, everyone who worked with Doug in any capacity over the years knows that it all began as The Mabie Group and they will continue to function the same way - with Doug watching over.

We are blessed.

Fondly,

The Mabie Family

Annie, Rachel, Heather and Ross
